My studio ware is decorative and mostly unglazed. The pieces are coil built with a heavily grogged clay that I coat with slip and fire to 1260oc in an electric kiln. After their stoneware firing they are put in to another kiln where they are smoke fired for around 12 hours using sawdust and other organic materials. The results are remarkable and different every time.
I enjoy working from the natural world where I am always interested in form and texture which I find richest in nature. I record items of interest such as landscapes, human form, stones, cliffs, animals, by using photography, Charcoal, oil pastels and soft graphite pencil, from which I can begin to study and experiment with forms and surfaces.

"Pottery is one of the oldest human technologies and art- forms. It is believed that the earliest pottery wares were hand-built and fired in bonfires. Ceramic art covers the art of pottery, whether in items made for use or purely for decoration"
